3 水星是太阳系中个头最小的行星，其直径为4879千米，比月球大一点，月球的直径为3476千米。地球直径为12742千米。一个地球大约能装下18个水星。
4 水星的英文为Messenger，在希腊、罗马神话中，是信使之神。
5 水星上白天温度会升高到酷热的430度（这是摄氏度，华氏度为800度），夜间则降到零下180度。其他行星都不具备如此剧烈的温度变化。但水星不是温度最高的行星。金星上的平均温度为464度，超过水星的最高温度。
