航空污染需整顿!
 
Airplanes may only contribute roughly 2 percent of the greenhouse gases warming the atmosphere. But they are one of the fastest growing sources. David Biello reports.

On any given day odds are you'll see several contrails, some slowly spreading out to form high, cirrus clouds. Air travel just keeps growing—and the atmosphere is starting to notice.
我们每天都有机会看到几次飞机喷出的航迹云,它们有的会慢慢散开,形成高高的纤维状卷云。航空交通正在飞速发展,而大气层已经开始注意到了这点。
 
The act of burning kerosene and other aviation fuels to power jet engines and propellers means carbon dioxide emissions, among other types of pollution. And that CO2, plus water vapor and the like is deposited high in the atmosphere, where it contributes most effectively to global warming.
发动机与螺旋桨需要燃烧煤油与其它航空燃料获得能量,这就意味着二氧化碳的排放,并且还会造成其他污染。二氧化碳、水蒸汽等物质聚集在大气层上部,成为了全球变暖最可恶的元凶。
 
The world’s nations have spent years trying to come up with a way to restrain air travel emissions. And this week the International Civil Aviation Organization, the ICAO, a U.N. body, agreed on a plan to do just that—that won’t take effect until 2020. Hence the flyby in Montreal of a chartered plane trailing the banner: "Can't Spell Procrastination without ICAO."
世界各国已花费了数年的时间,寻找限制航空排放的方法。这周,联合国下属的国际民航组织(ICAO)通过了一项限制航空排放的计划,只不过这计划要到2020年才能生效。于是,一艘飞跃蒙特利尔的包机在空中拉出了这样的条幅:“ICAO,拖延界的中流砥柱。”
 
Solutions exist for airplane emissions, ranging from low-carbon biofuels to more efficient engines and lighter plane bodies. If an airplane powered only by sunshine can fly across the U.S., there's reason to believe air traffic can be cleaned up, and soon.
我们还是有办法解决飞机排放的问题的,譬如使用低碳的生物能源、提高引擎的效率,或者减轻飞机的重量。太阳能飞机已经飞跃了美国上空,这使我们有理由相信,用不了多久,空中交通也能被清洁一新。
