井车是古人从深井中提水进行灌溉的工具，大约产生于唐代（公元618年～907年）。井车从辘轳发展变化而来，主要结构包括卧齿轮、立齿轮、立水轮以及一串木桶链。卧齿轮被人力或畜力驱动啮合立齿轮，立齿轮与立水轮连接在一个轴上，木桶链缠绕在立水轮上。由于井车是垂直于地底取水，因此在中国西南地区也用于盐井汲取盐水。井车的出现适应了雨水缺少、地下水位低的特点。
