从2019年4月到2020年4月，事件视界望远镜（EHT）项目团队相继公布了世界第一张和第二张黑洞照片，成为了21世纪以来最重要的科学成就之一。回望科学史，当伽利略将望远镜指向天空，“地心说”的根基便开始动摇；当列文虎克将显微镜对准水滴，微生物的世界首次向人类敞开。那么，当我们能够给黑洞拍照，看到宇宙中最神秘的天体时，这又意味着什么呢？6月6日晚19：00-21：00，“科学连线”第13期将邀请EHT科学委员会主席海诺·法尔克（Heino Falcke）为我们讲解他们是怎样给黑洞拍照的，以及黑洞照片将带来怎样的科学革命。中国科学院上海天文台的袁峰研究员和郝蕾研究员也将参与活动，为我们介绍中国科学家对于黑洞照片的贡献，并与法尔克教授一起讨论拍摄黑洞照片的重大意义。
In April 2019, the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) team released the world's first black hole photo. A year later, EHT released a second picture of a black hole -- a picture of a large amount of material ejected from it. For black hole photos, our most concerned question is, what can we find by observing and photographing black holes? What do these findings mean for humans now and in the future? 海诺·法尔克（主旨嘉宾）
海诺·法尔克是EHT项目发起者之一（也是EHT概念的提出者）、荷兰内梅亨大学天体粒子物理学与射电天文学教授。该项目成立于2017年，通过联合全球多地的8组天文望远镜，构建一个口径等同于地球直径的“虚拟”望远镜，从而收集海量数据，勾勒出黑洞的模样。
EHT是一个非常国际化的研究项目，全球多个国家的科学家参与其中，包括中国科学院上海天文台台长沈志强、副台长袁峰等人。在第一张黑洞照片，也就是M87黑洞的成像过程中，共有16名中国科学家参与其中，他们在观测黑洞，以及EHT数据成像重建、结果的理论分析等工作中，做出了积极的贡献。
